There are two new postmasters on the island, working in the Kula and Paia post offices, the U.S. Postal Service announced.

Laurene Fowler is the new postmaster in Kula and Cindy Hand in Paia.

In Kula, Fowler will supervise eight postal employees and the daily processing and distribution of more than 10,000 pieces of mail daily to 1,200 post office boxes and to more than 3,800 addresses on five delivery routes.

She is a 26-year postal employee, who most recently served as the postmaster at the Berne Post Office in Indiana. Raised and educated in Indiana, Fowler began her postal career as a letter carrier at the Fort Wayne Post Office.

“I’m proud to be Kula postmaster,” she said in a news release. “I hope to make the Postal Service the delivery company of choice for residents from Kula to Ulupalakua.”

Fowler and her husband, Dudley, have three children and three grandchildren. She resides in Kihei.

In Paia, Hand supervises four postal employees and the daily processing and distribution of more than 3,000 pieces of mail to 1,750 post office boxes and to more than 700 addresses on two delivery routes.

She is a 25-year postal employee who had most recently served as the postmaster at the Huachuca City Post Office in Arizona. Although born in Louisiana, Hand was raised and educated in Arizona and began her postal career as a clerk at the Tucson General Mail Facility.

“I love being in Paia,” she said. “It has a wonderfully diverse and organic feel to it. Every day brings something new for me to smile about. I have some great ideas that I hope to implement that will give our customers easier access to our services and shorten their time in line.”
