Rotary clubs paint 2 group homes for disabled
More than 30 members of the Rotary Club of Kahului, assisted by members of several other Maui clubs, including Upcountry, Valley Isle Sunset, Maui, Wailuku and Kihei-Wailea, under the direction of Arc of Maui County staff, painted the exterior walls of two group homes Jan. 28. The homes provide 24-hour care for individuals with developmental disabilities.
“It’s been over 10 years since our homes were last painted and because we are so close to the ocean, it requires more maintenance and upkeep on our part,” said Robert Lane, chief executive officer of Arc of Maui County. “We are quite aware of the requests placed upon the Rotarians from the community and are grateful for their time and effort.”
This community service activity was made possible through the Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Foundation’s “Weinberg Friends Project,” which also provides for a grant of $10,000 to the selected nonprofit organization to further its mission.
The new and improved look will assist Arc with the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development’s rent comparability study that is conducted every four years, providing rent subsidy to Arc’s disabled clients, as well as the Department of Health’s annual survey on all of Arc’s group homes.
“We are thrilled with the outcome of the homes. Our clients especially love the fresh new look,” said Ron Hovious, residential manager.
