5 MPD officers make the rank of sergeant

Five Maui Police Department officers have been promoted to the rank of sergeant. They are:

• Lawrence Becraft, who will be assigned to the Lahaina Patrol Division. He was raised on the Big Island before joining the department in 1993. During his career, he has been assigned to the Wailuku, Molokai and Lahaina patrol divisions as well as the Traffic Section, where he worked in both the DUI Task Force and Vehicular Homicide Unit.

Becraft is a past recipient of the Hawaii State Law Enforcement Officials Association’s Officer of the Year award.

He has two daughters, Mya and Kayla.

• Ka Lae O Ka Ena Brown, who will be assigned to the Receiving Desk. She joined the department in 2001 as a member of the 57th Recruit Class. She has worked in the Wailuku, Molokai and Kihei patrol divisions and most recently was assigned to the Community Relations Section as a Drug Abuse Resistance Education officer.

Brown instructs police recruits in report writing, is a member of the MPD Peer Support Team and serves on the board of the Maui Police Relief Association.

• Keoki Santos, who will be assigned to the Hana Patrol Division. He began his MPD career in 2006. He has worked in the Wailuku, Hana and Kihei patrol divisions, the Crime Reduction Unit, Special Response Team and most recently the Criminal Intelligence Unit.

Santos and his wife, Keala, have two children, Alaula and Kahiau.

• Ryan Saribay, who will be assigned to the Molokai Patrol Division. He is a graduate of Lahainaluna High School and Michigan State University.

After joining the department in 2006 and completing recruit school, Saribay was assigned to the Wailuku Patrol Division. In 2013, he was transferred to

the Juvenile Crime Prevention Section as a juvenile investigator.

He has been a field-training officer, member of the Special Response Team and instructor for recruit training in arrest and defense tactics, officer safety and active shooter.

• Aylett Wallwork, who will be assigned to the Wailuku Patrol Division. He joined the department in 2000 as a member of the 55th Recruit class. He worked in the Receiving Desk and Wailuku Patrol Division before being assigned to the community policing program in 2011.

Wallwork is credited with starting the Maui Police Activities League, which offers free youth athletic programs coached by volunteer police officers throughout Maui.

The promotions took effect March 1.
