A 28-year-old man was arrested in the robbery of a Haliimaile man who reported a pistol was pointed at him and being beaten by two intruders in his residence last month.
Anthony Palladino of Wailuku was charged as a principle or accomplice with first-degree robbery, attempted second-degree murder, second-degree assault and second-degree theft. His bail was set at $500,000 following his arrest Friday.
Police said Palladino drove a car to the Haliimaile residence of 59-year-old Richard Ingram after 11:30 a.m. June 11 while a white sport motorcycle carrying two men was outside.
Palladino was in the residence with Ingram, who said he had opened a safe to get medication when two men wearing visored motorcycle helmets burst in. Ingram said both robbers had guns. He said one man pointed a gun at him and pulled the trigger but the gun didn’t fire.
Ingram said he lunged at one man and both robbers beat him with pistols, striking him repeatedly in the head. The robbers left with money from his safe, Ingram said.
Ingram was treated at Maui Memorial Medical Center and required staples to close lacerations in his head, he said.
During an initial appearance Monday in Wailuku District Court, Palladino was ordered to have no contact with Ingram and to stay away from his residence.
If convicted of Class A felony charges, Palladino could face a 10-year mandatory prison term based on a prior conviction for unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, said Deputy Prosecutor Lewis Littlepage.
The two gunmen hadn’t been arrested as of Monday and police were continuing to investigate.
