The Maui News – Amy Hanaiali’i and Willie K will reunite for a holiday concert Dec. 15 at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center’s Castle Theater.

The concert, which begins at 7:30 p.m., is part of the MACC’s Ho’onanea Hawaiian music series. Ho’onanea preshow festivities start at 5:30 p.m. with local craft vendors and live music in the Yokouchi Pavilion Courtyard.

Tickets go on sale to MACC members Friday and to the general public Nov. 2.

Long celebrated as two of Maui’s favorite entertainers, Hanaiali’i and Willie K blend her rich sultry voice with his vocal abilities and guitar prowess, the MACC news release said.

Hanaiali’i is Hawaii’s top-selling female vocalist with five Grammy nominations and 18 Na Hoku Hanohano awards. Her “Friends and Family” album showcased a duet with country music legend Willie Nelson. She has performed live and opened for Earth, Wind and Fire; Carlos Santana; Boz Scaggs; Diana Krall and Joe Cocker.

Willie K, who is battling cancer, has a legendary rendition of the Christmas carol “O Holy Night.” On Saturday, he wowed the Aloha Stadium crowd before the University of Hawaii’s football game with Nevada with a his rendition of “The Star Spangled Banner” with this ukulele.

He is a versatile entertainer who plays anything from indigenous acoustic Hawaiian music to jazz, reggae, rock, country and even opera, the MACC said.

“A lot of people came in and out of my life as far as music is concerned, people who were playing certain kinds of genres,” he said. “We became close friends and they taught me their favorite songs and I learned that style and vice versa, and I continued on after that.”

Tickets are $35, $45, $55 and $65. MACC members receive a 10 percent discount and children 12 and under are half-price.
