Woman arrested for attempted stabbing
A woman was arrested after she brandished a knife and threatened to kill a man at Kalama Park in Kihei last week, according to police.
Melanie Leist, 25, who has no local address, was charged with first-degree terroristic threatening. She is scheduled to be arraigned next week in 2nd Circuit Court.
Police said Leist woke from a nap in a park pavilion at about 3:30 p.m. May 8 and asked the man for alcohol. After he said there was no alcohol, she got a 6-inch serrated blade kitchen knife and approached the man while threatening to kill him, police said.
Leist tried to stab the man in his groin area, but he blocked the attack, according to police. The man was holding Leist’s arm when she continued trying to stab him, making contact with his left butt cheek, police said.
The knife didn’t puncture the man’s skin, according to police.
Leist was arrested nearby about 20 minutes later.
