Man threatens MPD, tries to run over cop

A 64-year-old Kihei man was arrested Tuesday for allegedly driving toward a police officer, threatening police and trespassing at the Kihei Police Station.

The man, who on Wednesday morning still had not been charged, was arrested for first-degree attempted assault against a police officer, first-degree terroristic threatening, two counts of first-degree criminal trespass and resisting an order to stop, police said.

The arrest came around 8:51 a.m. Tuesday after the man attempted to contact the Maui Police Department by phone multiple times, threatening to bomb the Kihei Police Station.

Later the man was observed trespassing at the Kihei Station. When ordered to stop, the man drove his vehicle toward an officer dressed in full police uniform.

The officer was able to get out of the way to avoid being struck. No injuries were reported.

The man then fled and was later located in Kahului, where he was arrested, police said.
