Roundtable TV talk show on assistance to be shown today
The Maui News
A roundtable discussion about available assistance for rent, mortgage, food and utilities, led by Council Member Yuki Lei Sugimura, will be televised at 6 p.m. today on Akaku Maui Community Media Channel 54.
“There are so many resources right now that are being underutilized, we need to get them into the hands of our Maui County citizens,” said Sugimura. “Having a safe place to shelter and quarantine is vital at this time with COVID numbers still fluctuating.”
The panel includes: Joseph Cardoza, retired 2nd Circuit judge; David W.H. Chee, attorney; Bevanne Bowers, executive director of Maui Mediation Services; Tracey S. Wiltgen, executive director of Mediation Center of the Pacific; Dan O’Meara, managing attorney for the Housing and Consumer Unit of Legal Aid Society of Hawaii; Thelma Kealoha, Maui community director of Catholic Charities of Hawaii; Jessica Crouse, Housing Division of the county Department of Housing and Human Concerns; Debbie Cabebe, chief executive officer of Maui Economic Opportunity; Nicholas Winfrey, president and chief professional officer of Maui United Way.
Those who tune in can learn about the resources available and how to acquire the support first hand from the program administrators. The roundtable panel is an offshoot of an earlier panel discussion held earlier this month by Fidelity National Title & Escrow of Hawaii to connect homeowners and renters with resources.
