Woman accused of stealing pickup

WAILUKU — Police arrested a woman who allegedly drove off with a Ford pickup truck after stealing a purse containing its keys and other valuables Sunday.

Maile Manintin, 32, who has no local address, was charged with first-degree unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle, theft of a credit card, six counts of unauthorized possession of confidential personal information, unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, fourth-degree theft and first-degree criminal trespassing.

The truck was reported stolen from Paradise Gardens apartments in Kihei.

Its keys were in a purse that was stolen from a Dodge RAM pickup truck that was illegally entered at the complex, according to police.

Manintin was arrested Sunday morning, police records show.

During her initial appearance Monday in Wailuku District Court, Deputy Prosecutor Lewis Littlepage asked for bail to be increased from $4,000 to $6,000 for Manintin based on the nine felony charges against her.

Deputy Public Defender David Pullman asked for Manintin to be released on supervision, saying she has no felony convictions.

Judge Kirstin Hamman granted the defense request while ordering Manintin to stay away from the complex at 851 S. Kihei Road.

Starting at $4.62/week.
