COVID-19 at a Glance
Latest developments:
• State Department of Health on Tuesday reported 17 new cases statewide as of 11:59 p.m. Sunday, including 13 on Oahu, three on Maui and one resident diagnosed out of state.
• DOH said the latest numbers were an undercount due to interruptions to the electronic reporting lab. The Hawaii Health Information Exchange has been working closely with the Disease Outbreak and Control Division to re-establish reporting feeds as quickly as possible, which will likely result in a rebound effect of increased case numbers over the next few days..
• There have now been 26,906 cases statewide, including 21,633 on Oahu, 2,216 on Hawaii island, 2,085 in Maui County (1,950 on Maui, 108 on Lanai, 27 on Molokai) and 179 on Kauai. A total of 793 residents have been diagnosed out of state.
• One new case each reported on Lanai and Molokai in the last several days were travel-related, DOH officials said, adding that there is no community spread.
• The number of active COVID-19 cases at Maui Community Correctional Center decreased to 18 after two inmates recovered.
• No new deaths were reported Tuesday, keeping the statewide count at 426 fatalities, including 340 on Oahu, 53 on Hawaii island, 29 on Maui, one on Kauai and three residents who died out of state.
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on identifying COVID-19:
• Fever and cough are symptoms.
• Most people have mild illness and are able to recover at home. If you think you may have been exposed to COVID-19, contact your health care provider immediately.
• Keep track of symptoms.
• If you have an emergency warning sign (including trouble breathing), get medical attention right away.
• Some people who are not showing symptoms could have the illness.
Methods for preventing illness include:
• Washing hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom, before eating and after nose-blowing, coughing or sneezing.
• If soap and water are not readily available, use a hand sanitizer with at least 60 percent alcohol.
• Avoiding touching eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
• Avoid contact with people who are sick; stay home if sick.
• Wear a face mask in public settings. The mask is intended to protect others.
• Social distancing: Stay 6 feet apart from others.
• Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces daily. This includes tables, doorknobs, light switches, countertops, handles, desks, phones, keyboards, toilets, faucets and sinks.
