Fire crews help Jet Ski to shore off Paia

Fire crews helped a Jet Ski to shore Saturday night after responding to a report of a vessel that appeared to be stalled off Hookipa Beach Park in Paia, according to the Maui Fire Department.

Responding to the 7:13 p.m. call, a Paia engine company and Kahului rescue crew searched from shore and saw the Jet Ski about 150 to 200 yards offshore from Mama’s Fish House and drifting toward Kahului, the Fire Department reported.

A paddleboarder from the Paia engine company made contact with those aboard the Jet Ski and confirmed they needed help before fire rescue watercraft was launched to help the Jet Ski to shore at Tavares Bay, the Fire Department reported.

An adult and two minors aboard the Jet Ski didn’t need medical assistance, the Fire Department said. The rescue, in light winds and surf of 1 to 2 feet, was concluded at 10:10 p.m.
