Haiku woman arrested in golf club attack

The Maui News

WAILUKU — A woman was arrested for allegedly hitting a man with a golf club while demanding money after she had been issued a warning not to return to his residence in Haiku.

Lianna Nespor, 39, of Haiku was charged with first-degree robbery, habitual property crime, second-degree assault and abuse by refusal to comply with a warning citation.

She was in an intimate relationship with the victim when she swung the golf club, hitting him in the thigh and demanding money on Nov. 7, Deputy Prosecutor Brant Yoshimoto said during Nespor’s initial appearance Tuesday in Wailuku District Court.

He said the man “believes that if the golf club hit his head, he would have been dead.” The man threw money at Nespor before she said it wasn’t enough, Yoshimoto said. He said she allegedly threatened to swing the golf club again and he gave her more money.

The day before, Nespor had been warned by police to stay away from the man and his residence, Yoshimoto said.

In asking for bail to remain at $50,000, Yoshimoto said Nespor has 15 convictions for contempt of court, as well as convictions for third-degree assault, misuse of 911, resisting arrest, second-degree criminal trespassing and two counts of fourth-degree theft.

Nespor argued that the bail amount was unreasonable, said Deputy Public Defender Andres Tobar. He said she has a place to stay that isn’t with the complaining witness and is working.

Judge Chris Dunn kept bail at $50,000.

Nespor was ordered to have no contact with the victim and to stay away from his residence.

Starting at $4.80/week.
