Fire in Wailuku displaces 4 residents
Four residents were displaced on Friday after a structure fire burned the second story of a Wailuku family home.
Maui County Dept. of Fire and Public Safety crews responded to a fire burning a four-unit, multi-family dwelling on Papali Lane at 3:36 p.m. Friday. Firefighters contained the flames in a room on the second floor by 4:02 p.m. and fully extinguished the fire a few hours later.
The cause of the fire remains unknown.
Four residents were displaced and one 33-year-old woman was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation, according to the fire department.
Resources deployed included Engine 1, Engine 10, Tanker 10, Hazmat 10, Rescue 10, two battalion chiefs and a fire investigator.
Reports show that smoke detectors were present and working, but there were no sprinklers.
There was an estimated $85,000 in damage to the structure and an addition $10,000 in damages.
