Parts of Maui under brown water advisory
A brown water advisory has been issued from Waihee to Hookipa and for Hanakao’o Beach Park after heavy rain sent stormwater runoff into coastal waters, the state Department of Health announced Monday afternoon.
The public should stay out of floodwaters and stormwater runoff due to possible overflowing cesspools, sewers, manholes, pesticides, animal fecal matter, dead animals, pathogens, chemicals and associated flood debris, the department warned.
While not all coastal areas may be impacted by runoff, members of the public should stay out if the water is brown and contact a physician if they have any health concerns, the department said.
