Flags lowered to honor Texas victims

The U.S. and Hawaii state flags will be flown at half-staff until sunset on Saturday to honor the victims of a shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas on Tuesday morning, Gov. David Ige announced.

At least 19 children and two adults had died as of Tuesday evening, the Associated Press reported, citing the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The 18-year-old gunman also reportedly died. The incident was the deadliest shooting at a U.S. grade school since a gunman killed 20 children and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Conn., in 2012, the AP said.

“I join our nation in mourning the tragic and senseless loss of these innocent victims, and I stand with the families of those affected by this horrific act of violence,” Ige said in a statement. “On behalf of the State of Hawaii, I express my deepest condolences to the victims’ families, the faculty, staff and student body at Robb Elementary School, and the Uvalde community in Texas.”

In Hawaii, the flags will be flown at half-staff at the Capitol and all other state offices and agencies, as well as the Hawaii National Guard.

Starting at $4.62/week.
