Maui County’s seven high schools with graduating senior classes will hold their commencement ceremonies in late May, starting with King Kekaulike High School on May 18, the state Department of Education announced Friday.
The department rolled out the schedule for high school graduations statewide, which are moving forward with no health and safety restrictions that have marked previous graduation ceremonies during the pandemic. Participants, however, are still asked to still be mindful of COVID-19 precautions and to stay home if they feel sick, have symptoms of illness or have tested positive for COVID-19 within five days of the event, the department said.
The individual schools will be sharing logistical details with parents and guardians. The schedule for Maui County schools is as follows:
• King Kekaulike High School, 6 p.m. May 18 at the school’s stadium.
• Baldwin High School, 5 p.m. May 19 at War Memorial Stadium.
• Maui High School, 4:30 p.m. May 20 at War Memorial Stadium.
• Lanai High and Elementary School, 2 p.m. May 20 at Pedro Dela Cruz Gymnasium.
• Hana High and Elementary School, 3:30 p.m. May 20 on the school’s campus.
• Molokai High School, 4 p.m. May 20 on the school’s football field.
• Lahainaluna High School, 6 p.m. May 21 at the school’s campus.
“Our public schools strive to ensure that every student reaches their fullest potential and can be successful and thrive after high school, no matter what path they choose,” Superintendent Keith Hayashi said in a news release Friday. “Graduation is the culmination of that effort, reflecting years of dedication by our students and their families, teachers, administrators and peers who have helped them achieve their goals along the way. I know that our Class of 2023 will continue to make Hawai’i proud as they embark on their next journey.”
Information will be updated on the department’s website as needed at www.hawaiipublicschools.org. Families can also contact their child’s school directly for more information.
