Maui Police Chief John Pelletier was involved in a single-car accident near his Wailuku home on Sunday, police confirmed on Monday afternoon.

The incident occurred around 5 p.m. and there was no other property damage, said Assistant Chief Gregg Okamoto.

He said the chief was not injured.

Police were called to the scene and a report was documented, Okamoto said.

He declined to provide further details about the accident.
