Agencies offer first aid, mental health services amid fires

Local nonprofits and state agencies announced that they would be providing health care services amid the three major fires.
Hale Makua Kahului opened to the public to assist those needing urgent care. Available services include basic first aid, wound care, oxygen, simple burns and help for any kupuna that need additional assistance and care. Those with urgent care needs may go to the Kahului facility for treatment at 472 Kaulana St.
It is not set up to assist emergency medical situations. Hale Makua urges the community to call/text 911 or go to the nearest hospital emergency department for life-threatening emergency medical needs.
The state Department of Health Maui Community Mental Health Center is also offering crisis mental health services and expanding hours to those experiencing emotional or psychological distress as a result of the Maui wildfires, a news release said.
To receive the emergency services, contact the center by phone at (808) 984-2150, via email at mauiwellness@doh.hawaii.gov or in person at 121 Mahalani St. in Wailuku. Clinic hours are from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
To accommodate immediate needs, there will be expanded clinic hours on Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. After hours, contact Hawai’i CARES to speak to a local crisis counselor at (808) 832-3100, (800) 753-6879 or call/text/chat with 988.
The public is encouraged to reach out if they need emergency services such as mental health counseling, trauma processing, psychiatric services and resource guidance.
