$95M to cover cost of temporary housing

The Federal Emergency Management Agency will be providing nearly $95 million to Hawaii to cover the cost of temporary housing at hotels, meals and services for thousands of people impacted by the Aug. 8 wildfires on Maui, U.S. Sen. Brian Schatz announced Sunday.

“This is a down payment on what is necessary, but it is essential help,” Schatz, a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, said in a news release. “We will keep working as hard as we can to help to bring federal resources for Lahaina’s recovery.”

The $94,557,012.53 in new FEMA money covers the 90 percent federal cost share for temporary housing, meals and services through November, according to Schatz.

Starting at $4.62/week.
