Hawai‘i Realtors Organization Launches 2024 Fair Housing Keiki Art Contest

Keiki in grades K-8 are encouraged to learn about fair housing and submit art for a chance to win prizes

The Maui News

WAILUKU–Hawai’i Realtors, a leading statewide professional trade organization for the real estate industry, has launched its 2024 Annual Keiki Art Contest to help children learn about fair housing.

With the theme “Embracing Diversity: Housing for Everyone,” the contest celebrates the importance of the Fair Housing Act, which became law in April 1968. The law helps prevent discrimination in housing by ensuring equal access when renting or buying a home, securing a mortgage, seeking housing assistance or engaging in other housing-related activities.

“Hawai’i REALTORS® encourages everyone in Hawai’i to learn about fair housing and the importance of housing laws that protect families from discrimination when renting or buying a home,” said Hawai’i REALTORS® President Julie Meier.

The National Association of REALTORS® offers virtual resources and training for REALTORS® on fair housing practices, as well as additional information about the Fair Housing Act.

The annual Keiki Art Contest is free and is open to all Hawai’i students from grades K-8, with two categories: grades K-4 and 5-8. First-place winners in each category will receive $250, second place $150, and third place $75. Honorable Mentions will also be selected. The deadline to submit artwork is Oct. 31, 2024, and winners will be announced by late November 2024. Artwork of first-place winners will also be featured in a printed 2025 Hawai’i Realtors calendar.

Submissions must be original, on paper, and may not exceed 8 ½ x 11 inches in size. Acceptable media includes paint, pencil, markers, ink, crayon and watercolor. Entries can be submitted online or mailed to Hawai’i Realtors. For the official entry form and guidelines, visit www.hawaiirealtors.com/keikiartcontest.
