Joined by soulful singer-songwriter Anuhea, acting stars Alex Aiono and Peyton Lee will be among those performing Sunday at the Seabury Hall campus.

“Spring Ho’ike – A Stroll Down Memory Lane” will be from 4 to 7 p.m. and include the Keiki Kupuna student group performing songs from the 20th century. The event promises a rich showcase of artistic expression celebrating the spirit of connection.

In addition to the captivating performances, guests will enjoy a selection of pupus, desserts and mocktails.

Aiono, who acted as Walter Taumata in the Disney TV series “Doogie Kamealoha,” will sing a couple of songs. Aiono and Lee, who acted as Lahela “Doogie” Kamealoha, will serve as hosts during the event, said Jen Goldyn, one of the event organizers.

Goldyn said both Aiono and Lee love Maui and are already on the Valley Isle, and enjoying a drive to Hana.

“They’re just good, decent people and like the idea of supporting something from Hawaii,” Goldyn said.

The Keiki Kupuna performance group was started by Goldyn’s daughters Bobby and Cassie when they were in elementary school and performed when they started visiting their grandma.

They’re now 17 and 15, respectively.

“Our grandma was in a hospice center, and she had severe dementia,” recalled Bobby. “All of a sudden, spending time with her was very different because she had a hard time remembering us. But she had always loved music.”

There was an old piano in the hospice center, and Bobby, who was in fourth grade, decided to start playing it one day. As sweet voices and the happy strum of the ukulele began to fill the room at Hale Makua, a nursing facility on Maui, smiles appeared on the seniors’ faces, and some sang along.

Through the Keiki Kupuna group, now a nonprofit, the melodic tunes continue to be sung and performed by children and teenagers at senior care centers every month. The live music Sunday includes a piano, guitars and a trombone.

The proceeds go to Keiki Kupuna to pay for a musical director, programming, and the instruments. Tickets are priced at $30 at keikikupuna.org.

Starting at $4.62/week.
