State health department closes L&L Hawaiian Barbecue in Kahului

The Hawai’i Department of Health has closed a Maui location of L&L Hawaiian Barbecue in the Maui Marketplace Food Court at 270 Dairy Road, Unit 170, in Kahului.

The health department issued a yellow “conditional” placard May 12, and the red closure placard was issued May 14.

According to the department, inspectors discovered a cockroach infestation during their first visit and a greater number of cockroaches during the follow-up inspection.

The department reported that inspectors found cockroaches were laying egg cases within the walk-in refrigerator and freezer door seals, which posed an imminent health hazard and the establishment was shut down.

The department says the restaurant must meet a specific set of requirements prior to scheduling another follow-up inspection. The requirements include contacting a professional pest control company and establishing a pest treatment and monitoring plan to fully eradicate the active cockroach population as well as sealing and repairing all cracks and crevices along the kitchen floor and walls and preparing pest prevention and control procedures.

Starting at $4.62/week.
