St. Anthony School has appointed Mary Jean Bega as its new principal.
A National Board-Certified Teacher and lifelong educator, Bega brings more than three decades of classroom and leadership experience to the role.
Established in 1848, St. Anthony School in Wailuku is one of the oldest Catholic schools in Hawaii. The school serves students from preschool through high school.
“I am humbled and excited to join the St. Anthony School ‘ohana,” said Bega, a Maui native. “This school has a rich history, rooted in faith, education, and service. I look forward to working together to build a strong, thriving future for our students and families.”
According to a news release, Bega retired in 2024 after a distinguished career in education and is returning with renewed passion for Catholic education and a strong commitment to student growth and academic excellence. Her leadership comes at a key moment for the school, which is moving forward with a number of new initiatives.
In the coming school year, which begins Aug. 6, the school will debut two programs aimed at enhancing student engagement and community relevance.
The St. Anthony School Sports Academy is a specialized program blending academic structure with athletic development and leadership training.
In addition, there is a newly expanded Hawaiian studies program, designed to deepen student connection to Hawaiian culture, language and values.
