Lahaina meeting to cover sewer project, housing programs, more
Maui County will host a Lahaina community meeting at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Lahaina Intermediate School cafeteria.
Among the topics to be discussed are the Wahikuli sewer project and the Hoʻokumu Hou housing programs. There will also be a status update from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on the transfer of wildfire debris from the temporary debris storage site at Olowalu to the permanent disposal site in Central Maui.
There will also be an update from the Maui Emergency Management Agency and the county’s police and fire department on the fire response and mitigation efforts following the Aug. 4 brush fire in Kaanapali.
Additionally, representatives from several departments and agencies will be available to offer support at resource tables during the community meeting including the county’s recovery office, 4LEAF, emergency management, the county’s planning department, the Department of Planning, FEMA, Hawaiian Electric, the Hoʻōla iā Mauiakama Disaster long-term recovery group and the Native Hawaiian Legal Corp.
The Lahaina community meetings are held in-person on the first Wednesday of the month, except on holidays, and livestreamed on Maui County’s Facebook page. A live broadcast of the meeting will also be shown on Akakū, Channel 53.
