Maui County officials are using community input gathered from a series of workshops and open houses to develop the Rebuild Lahaina Plan — one of 40 projects included in the county’s larger Lahaina Long-Term Recovery Plan.

With feedback from workshops and open houses in June, county officials are working on the plan, which focuses on rebuilding Lahaina’s commercial core including Front Street following the August 2023 wildfires.

According to county officials, the next step in crafting the Rebuild Lahaina Plan will come with the Maui County Office of Recovery hosting another open house from 3-7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, at Lahaina Cannery Mall.

The Sept. 30 open house is meant to give community members an opportunity to see the design options as well as speak with the project team and provide feedback.

The open house will take place near the entrance to Longs Drugs, and it is a follow-up to previous workshops and open houses on June 24-26.

According to the county, input from those events was used to develop the potential designs for Lahaina’s commercial area that will be presented at the upcoming open house. The public is welcome to drop in at any time during the event.

An online option for the open house will be available beginning Sept. 30 at www.mauirecovers.org/recover/rebuild-lahaina-plan.

The county says the street design options will be available to view and open for feedback through Oct. 14.
