Lahaina Community Meeting with King Kamehameha III School updates set for Oct. 1
State officials are expected to provide updated information on the effort to rebuild King Kamehameha III Elementary School at this month’s Lahaina Community Meeting, which will be at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 1 held via Zoom.
In addition to the school, the meeting agenda includes status updates on the transfer of wildfire debris from the temporary storage site at Olowalu to the permanent disposal site and on the Hoʻokumu Hou housing programs funded by Community Development Block Grant-Disaster Recovery.
A question-and-answer session will follow the presentations.
Registration for the webinar is required at www.mauirecovers.org/events. A live broadcast of the webinar also will be shown on Akakū: Maui Community Media, Channel 53.
Most Lahaina Community Meetings are held in person. However, the decision to move the meeting online was made in consideration of the community’s time during a busy week, which includes the Maui County Fair on Oct. 2-5, according to county officials.
Residents are also being encouraged to attend the Lahaina Town Commercial Area Open House. The open house will run from 3-7 p.m. Sept. 30 at the Lahaina Cannery Mall, and it will give the community the opportunity to view design options for the Lahaina commercial core, talk with the project team and provide feedback. The public is welcome to drop in at any time during the open house.
