Maui boys, Seabury girls set pace at Spartans invite

The Maui High boys and Seabury Hall girls dominated at the Seabury Invitational cross country meet on Saturday.
In the girls 5,000 meter race, the defending Maui Interscholastic League champions picked up where they left off, and Seabury Hall claimed four of the top five finishes.
Senior Freya Carlsen led the Spartans at 19:40, and junior Isabella Grossman finished close behind in 19:47, giving Seabury Hall the only two girls to break the 20-minute mark.
In third place, Kamehameha Maui sophomore Keilana Maldonado finished at 20:02, followed by Seabury freshman Skyla Prather (4th at 20:47) and junior Kailana Hagan (5th at 21:30) to round out the top five.
As a team, the Kamehameha Maui girls finished second and Maui High was third.
Kihei Charter freshman Brooke Hoida took sixth, and Ariceli Gonzales of King Kekaulike was eighth to lead their individual teams. Senior Gianna Pogni (10th) of Lahainaluna and Mia Terawaki (11th) of Maui High had the top finishes for their squads.
In the boys race, the day belonged to seniors with senior runners taking five of the top six finishes, led by Seabury Hall’s Finn Hensley, who turned in the fastest time at 17:14.

With three seniors at the top of the leader board, Maui High was paced by Makai Lindsey in second place, followed by teammates Kaito Kina and Angello Alvarez in third and fourth, respectively.
The Maui High boys also enjoyed a tight spread with the Sabers’ first and fifth runners separated by just 1 minute, 53 seconds. Maui High senior Miguel Montano-Gonzalez (6th at 18:35) and sophomore Carlton Kinkade (13th at 19:29) rounded out the top five runners for the Sabers.
The King Kekaulike boys also had a strong run, finishing third as a team with junior Makoa Kapuniai taking fifth. Close behind, Keenan Brennan and Alexander Lehman finished seventh and eighth, respectively.
