Edward Hudcovic of Makawao saw his first action with the Chaminade University men’s soccer team on Saturday as the Silverswords fell 4-0 to their interisland rival University of Hawaii Hilo.
During the game, another athlete from Maui, Kayden Medeiros, who’s from Pukalani, came within inches of getting Chaminade on the scoreboard in the ninth minute, but his shot glanced off the crossbar, according to the school’s athletic department.
Altogether, a season-high 23 Silverswords got on the pitch with Hudcovic joining Jayden Chaiyote and goalkeeper James Boudiette to get their first minutes of the season.
Hudcovic, a junior, got the start at defender, and it was his first action in a Chaminade uniform after playing in six games at Adams State in 2023.
The ‘Swords took five shots on the afternoon while UH Hilo took 16 shots, nine on-goal, and had 10 corner kicks.
Next week, the Silverswords will wrap up the home portion of the schedule with their final two games at the Saint Louis Field pitch.
Hudcovic and Medeiros, who is a senior, both played for Kamehameha Schools Maui.
