Kiffmann’s Maui Elite Taekwondo will host a grand opening for its new dojang at the Queen Kaʻahumanu Center from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.

“The Kiffmann Taekwondo ʻohana has been a staple in Maui’s martial art community for generations,” said Kauwela Shultz, general manager of Queen Kaʻahumanu Center, in a statement. “We look forward to seeing them continue their legacy here at the Queen Kaʻahumanu Center.”

For more than 30 years, the Kiffmann family has been teaching taekwondo on Maui, growing from offering classes on grassy lawns and community centers to operating the island’s longest-running martial arts school.

The studio was formerly on Lalo Street, but has now moved into its new space at the Queen Ka’ahumanu Center, in the lower level across from Zumiez.

Kiffmann Taekwondo was founded by Master Kathryn Kiffmann, who trained under Grandmasters Hee Il Cho, Kwan Soon Choi and Bong C. Kim.

Kiffmann was joined by Master Gunter and later their son Master Miles, as Kiffmann Taekwondo became Maui’s first WT/USAT-certified taekwondo school.

Over the years, the studio has produced national and international medalists, U.S. National Team members and black belts who’ve gone on to thrive in many different arenas and fields. Kiffmann Taekwondo has also gained widespread recognition by hosting the Maui Open Taekwondo Championship.

The family-operated school focuses on building courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control and spirit, while improving students’ fitness, focus, discipline and confidence through self-defense training and technique.

The studio is currently inviting potential students and families to a free trial class, as well as offering a special introduction package. The trial classes will be 10:30-11 a.m. for ages 3-7, 11 a.m.-noon for ages 8-plus. Registration starts at 10 a.m.
