Seabury Hall girls volleyball takes second at state
Seabury Hall finished runner-up in the Hawaii High School Athletic Association Division II girls volleyball state tournament after falling to Kapaa in five sets in the championship match.
Kapaa won 25-22, 25-23, 21-25, 21-25, 15-13 Saturday at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu to claim the state title.
During the match, Seabury Hall’s Milaniakai Padilla recorded a game-high 32 kills, followed by teammate Dillon McLellan with 20 kills and Clia Kafka with nine.
Destiny Keomaka-Wood had a game-high 54 assists, while four Spartans recorded double-digit figures in digs, including Padilla (23), Tulsi Erlemann (17), Madison Kalawaia (11) and Kafka (10).
Seabury Hall reached the championship match after defeating Maryknoll 26-24, 25-22, 28-26 Friday night in the semifinal round.
In the match against Maryknoll, Padilla had a game-high 18 kills, followed by McLellan with 14. Keomaka-Wood had 39 assists for the Spartans and Kafka had 12 digs and five kills. Erlemann had a game-high 17 digs.
After entering the tournament undefeated, Seabury Hall was 19-0 going into the tournament final. Kapaa finished the year 15-0, including 3-0 in tournament play.
