The state’s chief economist Seth Colby has been named as the director of the state Department of Budget and Finance, effective Dec. 8.

Gov. Josh Green made the announcement Monday and praised Colby for bringing a wealth of expertise in tax policy, economic research and fiscal management.

Colby has worked with the state in various capacities for the past eight years, including providing analysis and producing reports on Hawaii’s economy, tourism, energy and demographics.

State officials will work to find a new state economist in the coming months.
