Hawaiian cultural expert Ekolu Lindsey has been named president of the Lahaina Restoration Foundation.

Lindsey, who spent his childhood in Lahaina, serves as cultural consultant for Maui Nui Marine Resource Council and co-founder of Polanui Hiu, a group seeking better management of marine and cultural resources in Lahaina.

“We are thrilled to welcome Ekolu as our new president,” said Theo Morrison, executive director of the foundation. “His experience, commitment and passion for our mission will help guide LRF as we continue to protect and rebuild Lahaina’s rich cultural and environmental heritage.”

The foundation also elected David Allaire as vice president, Noe Gumboc as treasurer and Penny Wakida as secretary. Gumboc had served as interim treasurer over the past year.

Founded more than 60 years ago, the Lahaina Restoration Foundation is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to steward and share Lahaina’s historic and cultural heritage. The foundation manages several historic properties, including the Baldwin House, the Lahaina Courthouse and Lahaina Prison.

In the wake of the August 2023 fire, the foundation is working to rebuild and restore historical landmarks. More information is available at LahainaRestoration.org.

Starting at $4.62/week.
