Maui Indivisible, which has organized numerous rallies and protests critical of U.S. President Donald Trump across Maui over the last year, will hit the streets again from 4-5:30 p.m. Thursday.

The protest will be in front of the Maui County Building at 200 High St.

According to organizers, one of their goals with the rally is to lobby Maui County Council members to vote down proposed contracts between the Maui Police Department and federal agencies over concerns the Trump administration is weaponizing the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force and the National Guard.

According to organizers, they want for the County Council and mayor to work with Maui Indivisible to pass legislation “to protect and insulate Maui County from Trump’s advancing autocracy and brazenly unconstitutional policies.”

In October, Maui County Council cited public concerns as the reason for pausing on Bill 92, which would authorize an intergovernmental agreement with the FBI for the Joint Terrorism Task Force. The measure passed on first reading Sept. 26.

Starting at $4.62/week.
