Maui Ki Aikido offers Bokken course Feb. 4-25

Maui Ki Aikido is offering an introductory course in the bokken (Japanese wooden sword) from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesdays from Feb. 4 to 25 at the Shunshinkan Dojo, 194 South St., in Wailuku.

The four-week course will familiarize students with proper handling and etiquette with the bokken.

“The Japanese look at the sword today not as a weapon of destruction, but as an object of inspiration,” head instructor Tracy Reasoner said. “The importance of practicing with a bokken is not to learn how to wield a weapon. Instead, it is to learn the principle of putting all our mind and body into whatever we are holding or using, whether it be a pen, a kitchen knife, or a golf club.”

The course is $40. For more information, call or text 808-357-5172.

Starting at $4.62/week.
