Maui County Council honors back-to-back state champion Kamehameha Maui football

The Maui County Council unanimously approved a resolution Friday congratulating the Kamehameha Schools Maui football team for winning its second-consecutive state championship.
The Warriors went 8-0 in Maui Interscholastic League Division II play and won the league crown this year before capturing the Hawaii High School Athletic Association state championship with a 48-24 victory over Waimea on Nov. 28 at Mililani High School on Oahu.
The victory followed last year’s state championship in which the Warriors defeated Kaiser 37-14 on Nov. 30, 2024.
The resolution honoring the team was introduced by Maui County Council Vice Chair Yuki Lei Sugimura.

The team is led by head coach Ulima Afoa and assistant coaches David Carino, Lance De Silva, Frank Abreu, Kawika Boro, Leo Delatori, Brian Harris, Kevin O’Brien, Alika Guerrero, Brandon Kang, Verne Merrill, Kaeo Ripani, Christian Rosenthal, Cy Hamasaki, Dane Abarra, Taylor Kamakawiwoole, John Liti, Jay Magbual, Kaeo Rapani and Lemoe Tua.
