System inspections underway in effort to restore power
With improved weather conditions, Hawaiian Electric crews have begun work to restore power to thousands of customers in West Maui.
The utility shut down power to roughly 10,000 customers in West Maui on Monday night due to high winds. At about 2 p.m. Tuesday, crews reported they had begun inspecting utility equipment for damage, which must repaired before turning the power back on.
A Public Safety Power Shutoff remains in effect for Maui and Hawaii Island.
