Hawaiian Electric reported that about 4,300 customers on Maui remained without power as of 5 a.m. Monday.
A powerful kona storm knocked out power to more than 10,000 people in Maui County as it brought high winds, heavy rain and widespread flooding over the weekend.
On Monday, Hawaiian Electric reported that crews had restored power to more than 1,500 customers, including the majority of hard-hit South Maui and Kula, as well as for most of Hana. Hawaiian Electric said the remaining 4,300 customers who are still without power are mostly in the Upcountry and East Maui areas, as well as pockets of Haiku and Kihei, where there are underground cable faults due to the heavy rains and flooding.
Hawaiian Electric restored power to about half of the customers who were without power last night across Oahu, Maui County and Hawaii Island, and around 15,500 customers still remain without power across the three islands.
Hawaiian Electric said it has nearly 350 workers in the field working to complete inspections and make repairs.
