Maui Community Band to open Spring Concert Series on Saturday

The 50-piece Maui Community Band will open its Spring Series Concerts at 2 p.m. March 7 at the Maui Mall Village in Kahului.
Performances will continue at The Shops at Wailea at 4:30 p.m. March 14.
The free entertainment features classical tenor Danny Brictson singing “Nessun Dorma” from the opera “Turandot,” “Bring Him Home” from “Les Misérables,” and “You’ve Got a Friend In Me” from “Toy Story.”
Musical Director Ted Manzano said the band will play 12 songs, including folk dances by Dmitri Shostakovich, Carl Strommen’s “Celebration and Fanfare,” and John Mackey’s “Undertow,” during the performance, which will last about an hour.
The Maui Community Band is composed of musicians from the Valley Isle, including Manzano who is a retired band instructor from Maui Waena Intermediate School in Kahului.
Manzano said the band includes former students, and the concert orchestra features a wide range of instruments such as the flute. oboe, saxophone, tuba, bassoon and percussion.
