Meeting to feature talk on arts and Lahaina recovery

At the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset meeting April 7, Barry Kawakami will talk about how performing arts can help rebuild Lahaina.
Drawing on his experience and work from the Wave of Harmony Foundation, Kawakami will highlight how access to the arts transforms lives, especially for youth, and how the arts can serve as a catalyst for healing, community connection and economic growth.
The presentation will also highlight initiatives designed to expand performing arts education, support local artists and help build a vibrant cultural and creative future for Lahaina and Maui County.
Kawakami is a Maui arts advocate, nonprofit founder and community leader dedicated to expanding access to the performing arts across Maui County. He is the founder and president of the Wave of Harmony Foundation, a nonprofit organization committed to building a thriving performing arts industry in Maui County.
The meeting will be at the YMCA West Side Resource Center in the old Tamura’s building in Emerald Plaza, 226 Kupuohi St., in Lahaina. The social period will begin at 5 p.m., with the meeting program scheduled from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Bottled water and a light snack is available for purchase.
