County considers desalination in West, South Maui

Facing increasing water demands, Maui County water officials are holding meetings in West and South Maui to look at converting brackish water and saltwater into drinking water. The meetings on desalination will be Aug. 5 at the Kihei Community Center and Aug. 13 at the Lahaina Civic Center Social Hall. As Maui Christian Academy enters its fourth year in the Maui Interscholastic League, the Eagles have competed in surfing, air riflery, cross country and track and field. School officials said each season has helped strengthen the athletic program by giving student-athletes opportunities to compete at a higher level while preparing for future athletic and academic pursuits. UHERO: Lahaina wildfire recovery is progressing but remains ‘fragile’

Three years after the Lahaina wildfire, survivors are showing signs of recovery, but many continue to struggle with mental health challenges and other health concerns, according to a new study from the University of Hawaii-based think tank UHERO.
