Sixth teen arrested in alleged assault, riot at West Maui resort

Seven people, including six juveniles, have been arrested in connection with an assault and riot July 17 at a resort pool area in Ka‘anapali, according to the Maui Police Department. Detectives made the latest arrests Tuesday, taking into custody a 14-year-old Lahaina boy on suspicion of riot and third-degree assault, a 14-year-old Lahaina girl on suspicion of riot and a 17-year-old Lahaina girl on suspicion of riot. State restricts beetle host materials headed to Maui, Lanai

New restrictions are being imposed on the transportation of materials that could carry coconut rhinoceros beetles to Maui and Lanai. The state Board of Agriculture and Biosecurity approved Interim Rule 26-2 on Tuesday, prohibiting shipments to the two islands of coconut fruit and several types of host material, including live plants with organic material attached to their roots, untreated compost, wood chips, mulch and other decomposing plant matter. Haiku to host speed bump update, candidate forum today

The Haiku Community Association will host a candidate forum and receive a county update on speed bumps during its regular monthly meeting Wednesday, July 29, at the Haiku Community Center. The meeting is set to begin at 6:30 p.m. Association President Lucienne De Naie said the first half-hour will be set aside for the county and association to discuss concerns about the number of speed bumps being installed on rural roads.

Temporary recycling set for Kahului

Maui County Department of Environmental Management is partnering with Aloha Recycling in Kahului to provide temporary recycling drop-off services. Aloha Recycling at 75 Amala Place is open from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Detectives arrested a 14-year-old Lahaina boy and two 16-year-old boys, one from Wailuku and one from Lahaina, on Monday.
