County to host passport application fair in Lahaina

The Maui County Department of Human Concerns Immigrant Services Division will host a U.S. passport application acceptance fair by appointment from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Aug. 28 at the Maui Family YMCA Westside Resource Center in Lahaina. The event is intended to make passport services more accessible to West Maui residents. To schedule an appointment, call (808) 270-7791. Suicide prevention events planned across Maui County

The state Department of Health is alerting the public to several events across Maui County in recognition of September as Suicide Prevention and Awareness Month. On Maui, a SafeTALK Suicide Prevention Training will be from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sept. 10 at the University of Hawaii Maui College. For information, email Wendy.Schwartz@va.gov. Brown-water advisory lifted for Maui, issued at Fleming Beach

The islandwide brown water advisory for Maui has been canceled, but a new advisory has been issued for Fleming Beach Park on Maui, according to the state Department of Health. The department is advising beach users to stay out of waters that appear brown or murky, especially following storms or heavy rain. After storms or heavy rain, the water may contain higher than normal pollutant levels. Scouting America, Aloha Council is inviting Hawaii families to enroll children in its fall programs, which offer outdoor activities, STEM education, community service and leadership opportunities. Programs are open to youth from kindergarten through age 17.
