Hawaiian Electric monitoring wildfire conditions, warns of possible power shutoffs
Hawaiian Electric has issued a Public Safety Power Shutoff watch for parts of Maui as high winds and dry conditions increase wildfire risk. The utility said Friday it is closely monitoring conditions on Maui as well as areas of Hawaii Island. A watch means Hawaiian Electric could proactively shut off power within the next 24 to 48 hours if weather conditions worsen, though no shutoffs have been ordered.
