Sonja Leonora Atai, 72

Sonja is survived by her husband, Myron Atai, brother, Gain Matsumura and sister, Celia (Paul) Babcock, and many nieces and nephews.

Sonja is preceded by her parents Richard and Annie Matsumura, and sisters Lana (George) Costa, Sylvia Matsumura, and Heather Matsumura, a brother Casey (Joyce) Matsumura.

During her life, she worked as a clerk for the Maui Police Department and other organizations. She spent most of her time as a homemaker, serving her church and caring for her mother. She loved her dog, Queenie and was a lover of all animals. She was an excellent cook and incredible baker. She enjoyed being around her family, especially her nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to, Hospice Maui, Dawn Santiago, Jean, Pastor Robb Finberg and Pastor Barbara Tengan for their undivided attention during her stay at Hospice Maui, and to all family and friends that came to visit Sonja during her last days. Sonja will be missed, but not forgotten. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, November 17, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Dani’s Catering in Wailuku. The family requests no flowers, kindness is always appreciated.
