Brian H. Shima, 97

Brian Hideo ‘Hide’ Shima, was born on September 3, 1925, to Mr. Toku and Mrs. Ushi Shimabukuro of Lahaina, Maui. He passed away peacefully on June 17, 2023, at Hale Makua, Kahului.

Mr. Shim grew up in Crater Village, high above Lahaina town, where he and his many siblings enjoyed the pleasures and benefits of a small rural community.

He enlisted in the US Army where he proudly served his country for 3 years during and after the Korean War. He was a riflery training instructor and also served in the military postal department. While in the Army he was deployed to both Korea and Japan and eventually obtained the rank of Sergeant First Class.

Upon receiving an honorable discharge, he worked as a mason until retiring to pursue his passions for gardening, traveling, and spending quality time with his family.

Brian Shima was pre-deceased by his beloved son Mark, and wife, Hatsuye. He leaves many nieces and nephews to cherish his memory.

A graveside service honoring Mr. Shima will be held privately by the family at a future date.
