Robert Kawaguchi
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Tokuichi “Frank Buck” Kawaguchi, of Lahaina, on October 31, 2025.
Robert was born on February 25, 1930, to Rikiichi & Shizuko Kadotani Kawaguchi in Makawao but grew up and attended schools in Lahaina, and graduated from the University of Hawaii.
Besides his parents, Robert is predeceased in death by his brothers, Masaichi (Hatsuyo, deceased) and Kenji (Mildred, deceased); sisters, Miyoko (Clarence, deceased) Kubo, Yaeko (Noboru, deceased) Matsuda and Geraldine (Lloyd, deceased) Matsui.
Robert is survived by his wife of 68 years, Sakae Wakamatsu Kawaguchi of Wailuku; 3 sons, Craig (Jean) of Wailuku, Brian, Jon (Angie) from Oregon. Brothers, Kenneth (Frances), Alan (Gerry); sisters, Shizue (Yukiya, deceased) Suzuki, and Mildred (Paul) Yasuhara. He is also survived by 3 cherished grandchildren, Lisa, Natalie & Ken Kawaguchi, and many nieces, nephews and their families.
Robert was an educator for over 40 years at Puukolii, Kamehameha III and Lahainaluna High Schools. He was also active in sports as a coach and later, as an Athletic Director.
Funeral services will be held at Kahului Hongwanji on Saturday, December 20, 2025. Visitation from 9:15 and services at 10:45. Lunch to follow.
Family is requesting no koden and no flowers. In accordance to Robert's wishes, donations can be made to: Lahaina Hongwanji Mission, Lahainaluna Athletic Department or Lahaina Restoration Foundation; organizations that he passionately and actively served in.
Robert's legacy of his willingness to serve the Lahaina community of young and old alike will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
