Brent Hurst

Brent Hurst (Keala Kekua), a long-time resident of the Paia/Haiku area, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2025, under the care of Hospice Maui.

Brent is known for writing two children’s books, “Hawaii’s Hairy Honu” and “Maui Dolphin Tale.” Brent was always a strong swimmer, loved the ocean, and worked in Hollywood as a manager for actors and other performers. His true calling however, was as an artist & poet.

He is survived by his sister and brother, very good friends Prem & Sarjan, and his friends at Story Coffee House in Paia.
