Janet Midori Inamasu

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Janet Midori Inamasu on December 18, 2025.

Janet was born on November 10, 1928, to Hatsugoro and Tatsu Makimoto in Ulupalakua. Janet is survived by her husband of 72 years Harold “Archie” and son Wendell (Sally). The fifth of nine children, Janet is also survived by brothers Mitsuo Robert (Florence, deceased) Makimoto and Haruo Harold (Mildred, deceased) Makimoto; sister Yaeko Dorothy (Robert, deceased) Kawamoto. Janet is predeceased in death by her brothers Nadao (Aiko, deceased) and Namio Frank (Dorothy, deceased); sisters Hanako Doris (John, deceased) Hashimoto, Mieko Florence (Kuroku, deceased) Kamimoto, and Yoshie Betty (Richard, deceased) Hashimoto.

Upon graduating from H. P. Baldwin High School, Janet traveled to Japan for a two-year commitment supporting the U.S. Army in their clerical support pool. Upon her return to Maui, Janet worked for over 30 years for Hawaiian Airlines beginning with the city ticket office in Wailuku before transferring to the newly expanded Kahului Airport facilities with the large banyan tree and featuring the Gate 21 Restaurant. In her retirement, Janet enjoyed sewing and supporting the Wailuku Hongwanji Buddhist Women’s Association.

The family would like to thank the staff at Hale Mahaolu Akahi and the Maui Memorial Medical Center for their kind and sympathetic support.

Funeral Service will be held at the Wailuku Hongwanji Mission on Sunday, January 11, 2026. Visitation begins at 11:00 a.m., Service at 12:00 p.m. and lunch to follow.
