Shirley Yukiko Kaya, 90, of Kahului, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2017 at Hale Makua with her loving family by her side. Services honoring Mrs. Kaya were held privately. Nakamura Mortuary assisted with arrangements. Shirley was born on November 28, 1926 in Haiku to Nisaku & Tochi Nakamura.  Many will remember her as the owner & operator of Shirley’s Drive-In.  She was a hard worker, wonderful cook, and would do anything for her family.  After closing the restaurant, she enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas with her friends to shop and play slots. Frances Fortunata “Atang” Arcilla Sevilla, born October 14, 1928, in Pepe’ekeo, Hawai’i passed away on December 21, 2016 at Hale Makua Kahului. Frances was the daughter of the late Theresa and Pedro Arcilla, who were from respectively, Cebu and Ormok in the Visayas, Philippines.  The Arcilla family moved to Hamakuapoko, Maui, when Frances was three years old.  She attended Maui High School in “H-poko,” but her education was interrupted by WWII.  She later attended Maui Vocational School and earned her GED from the Department of Education, Adult Education ...

Mary T. Gonzales, 96 of Pukalani, passed away at her home on January 8, 2017. She was born on April 16, 1920 in Little Rock, New Mexico. Private services were held at St. Joseph Church in Makawao. Mary was a candle maker. She retired from Knorr Beeswax Candle Shop in Del Mar California where she worked for 40 years.
