Is Maui Now legitimate

Last year after the Lahaina fire my wife and I were so devastated that we donated $50,000 to Maui now! We received no acknowledgement till, months later, I inquired to get a receipt for tax purposes. They took awhile to even find we had donated and then sent a form letter? That was way short on thanks. We wonder, is Maui now! legitimate? As an aside, we also sent $3000 to a carpenter we discovered through a Maui connection when we discovered the carpenter had been wiped out in the fire. This money he used to buy new tools so he could get back to work. He sent us a very thankful ...

Political cartoon should never have been printed

The cartoon in the Opinion page for June 1-2, depicting Justice Merchan jury instructions, should never have been printed. Your paper prides itself that only factual information will be printed. I find the cartoon offensive and in line with lies from the right. The jury did find Trump guilty on all 34 felony counts without a reasonable doubt after requesting instructions from Justice Merchan for the second time. What a way to end your daily paper with right-wing propaganda. Frank Suda Kihei

Nobody can solve all our incredible problems

It is past time to “Let Lahaina Heal.” We cannot afford to make people feel unwelcome. It is time for “Help Lahaina Heal” or “Thanks for Helping Lahaina Heal.” The fact is we need, and have been getting, tremendous help from around the world. The state, federal government, local government, charities and individuals have all helped and will continue to do so. Nobody can solve all our incredible problems now. Everybody can’t be restored to instant happiness. Let’s not claim to be “Lahaina Strong” without being friendly and realistic about our situation. ...

Trump convicted criminal who still poses huge threat

By now, we’ve all heard the news that Donald Trump was found guilty of all 34 felony counts of falsifying his company’s business records to keep information from voters that he knew would harm his 2016 presidential campaign. This isn’t just about “hush money” payments. It’s about breaking the law to hide the truth from the American people 11 days before a presidential election. Trump has a clear pattern of lying to the American people and trying to undermine our elections in order to cling to power. He still faces three additional indictments and 54 criminal charges, ...

Facts, evidence, witness accounts don’t mean much

Trump knows everything. He knows that President Joe Biden’s election was fraudulent and stolen when more than 60 judges couldn’t find any substance in his claim. He knows he got millions more votes than Biden when all of the secretaries of states, many from his own party, couldn’t find them. He’s a cowardly draft dodger, who insists that he knows more about our military than all the generals who have served our country for years. He knows that but the patriotic tourists who attacked our capitol on Jan. 6, 2021 were not committing crime when they sought to overturn our ...

One more big failure among many failures

The president, the divider in chief, is trying to please his supporters, many of whom are Marxists. The justice system is unjust and under the control of Joe Biden and Marxist George Soros prosecutors. Joe Biden campaigned and promised to bring the country together. Republicans are saying they will no longer cooperate with the Democrats as a result of the recent unjust travesty in New York. The lack of justice was disgraceful. So, as usual Joe Biden failed again. He failed to bring the country together, if he ever tried. He did not keep his promise to the American ...
